Annika Berglund

"My work revolves around explorations of the possibilities and limitations of ceramics as a medium.

Much of my current work explores the dynamic between carefully controlled shapes and sections where the marks of the makings determine the final outcome. I also use black firing and different ways of smoke firing to achieve a finish where chance and the elements determine the final outcome." (Annika Berglund)

Born in Sweden, Annika Berglund moved to Ireland in 1991. She has been working in clay and exhibiting since 1999. Annika has participated in numerous exhibitions organised by Ceramics Ireland since 2002, exhibited in Sculpture in Context for three years and has participated in numerous other exhibitions, such as the RDS Craft Competition. She had her first solo exhibition in 2006.

She won a prize for "Best Sculpture in the Garden" at Blooms in 2008 and the NUI student prize in 2010.

Her work can be found in the collections of the NUI (National University of Ireland), the Craft Council of Ireland, Microsoft Ireland and the Millcove Gallery Sculpture Garden.

She has recently finished a degree in Craft Design (Honours), in NCAD with First Class Honours, specialising in Ceramics.
