Byzantium - Group show at Hodges Figgis

Hodges Figgis, 56-58 Dawson Street, Dublin: 29 May - 11 June 2015

Group show featuring works by Yanny Petters, and tondo artists Eve Parnell, Gerard Cox and Eoin Mac Lochlainn

To celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of W.B Yeats, Hodges Figgis presents an exhibition curated by the Olivier Cornet Gallery and featuring works by Yanny Petters and Tondo artists Eve Parnell, Gerard Cox, and Eoin Mac Lochlainn. Passers-by and customers of the bookshop alike will be able to view the exhibition, as the works will be displayed in the right-hand side window. The works presented in this show have been inspired by two of Yeats's poems: 'Sailing' to Byzantium' and 'Byzantium'.

Individually, Tondo members exhibit in various art galleries but, as a group, they seek out alternative spaces in which to exhibit. Not only is this a way of bringing art to a wider audience but it also brings a new impetus to their work because it forces the artists to reassess their ideas about art and to explore and experiment with alternative methods and materials. In the past Tondo has exhibited in many alternative spaces, including a lighthouse, a railway station, a public park and even a small crate. They have also exhibited in the National Gallery of Ireland.
