Solo Show
Artist  Yanny Petters
Official opening  Wed 24th April 2013 - 7pm
Guest speaker Dr Hilary Pyle (HRHA), writer, curator, biographer and Jack B Yeats scholar.

Yanny’s Verre Églomisé panels shed a new light on how we see plants while reflecting the rich history of plant illustration and the ancient techniques of decorative glass.

From field drawings Yanny designs each panel on paper. The glass is then etched with acid and in some pieces she also engraves elements of the design giving the artwork a soft line and sparkle. Colour is applied in a series of carefully selected layers, the highlights being applied first, and gold leaf is applied to certain parts of the design giving a reflective quality to these areas. The finished painting is sealed with a layer of varnish or paint effect, the final result being one of intricacy and illumination. Weeds become as precious as gold, pictures of wild plants become as valuable as icons.

Reflecting the glass icons of the Middle Ages and the detailed illustrations of plants found in the earliest medicinal manuscripts, these little paintings emit a glow of gold and colour to be envied by the most avid Alchemist.
