Portrait of Patrick Pearse by Eoin Mac Lochlainn, Pearse Museum Dublin (OPW State Art Collection)

Eoin MacLochlainn, a great grandnephew of Patrick Pearse (also known as Pádraig or Pádraic Pearse), painted this portrait in 2016. This painting hung in the entrance hall of our beautiful building and was admired by many until July 2017 when the Office of Public Works (OPW) acquired it. Now part of the art collection of the Irish State, this beautiful work hangs in the Pearse Museum (St. Enda's Park, Rathfarnham, Dublin 14) where it can be viewed by the public. It is a huge privilege for us at the Olivier Cornet Gallery to have facilitated the acquisition of this wonderful work by the Irish State through the OPW.

"Quiet determination – I think that’s what he had. He was passionate about the Irish language, Irish history and culture, the Irish way of life.", said the artist in a blog post from 13th April 2017, featuring this great painting.

Patrick Pearse and fourteen other leaders of the Easter Rising, including his brother Willie, were court-martialed and executed by firing squad. Thomas Clarke, Thomas MacDonagh and Pearse himself were the first to be executed, on the morning of May 3rd 1916. Pearse was 36 years old at the time of his death.
