Eoin Mac Lochlainn

'An ghaoth aniar / This too will pass X'

OPW State Art Collection, Ireland

Eoin Mac Lochlainn's splendid painting was acquired by the Office of Public Works (OPW) during Dublin Gallery Weekend 2025 which took place from the 6th of November to the 9th of November 2025.

The painting, a watercolour on chamfered birch panel, measures 45 x 30 cm. It is titled 'An ghaoth aniar / This too will pass X'. It was part of the artist's solo exhibition An ghaoth aniar / This too will pass which we hosted in our gallery from the 7th of September to the 4th of October 2025.

In a recent interview with Philip Carton at the Business Post (Meet the Artist, 14 September 2025), the artist commented:

"... The work for this show has been developing over the last few years. I became interested in how the wind and rain affected old fence posts by the sea. I was fascinated by the bizarre shapes caused by the erosion and also seeing the inner structure of the wood being laid bare. The title An ghaoth aniar/ This too will pass is a reminder of the ancient Persian adage: "This too will pass' and the Irish refers to the wind from the West..."

We are delighted to see this important work joining the Irish State's art collection. Please visit the exhibition page of the show and find out which paintings from this beautiful series are still available.
